September Meeting: Building a Data Practice Taxonomy for Philanthropy

Strong data practices are essential for advancing impact in philanthropy, but where do you start—and how do you know what’s missing?

Join this interactive members-only office hours session to learn about TAG and GivingData’s collaborative project: a framework that organizes the full landscape of data work—from culture and governance to ownership, literacy, equity, and use—into clear, actionable domains. After an introduction to the draft taxonomy and maturity model, TAG members will focus on discussing how this framework can evolve into a valuable, living resource for the TAG community and the sector.

Key Takeaways Include:

  • Gain insight into the draft Data Practice Taxonomy for Philanthropy and how it will inform TAG programming through 2026, including the Data Practices Summit.

  • Share early feedback on the taxonomy’s clarity, completeness, and usefulness (including what’s missing, confusing, or helpful for organizational progress).

  • Identify peers, models, or examples that could best inform the project.

Session Facilitators:

This session will be facilitated by Jean Westrick, Executive Director for TAG.
